Box theme 0.58

A new re-merge with Ubuntu Themes has been done, providing Lubuntu of the following features to the GTK3 theme:

  • revamped Unity controls
  • improved theme file structure
  • removed unnecessary objects
  • added missing elements (e.g. translucent endings, etc)
  • modified scroll sliders (now with autohide)
  • fixed buttons curvature (overall improvements)
  • other minor bug fixes

Remember that this is only a feature and bug fix release, and only affects GTK3 part. The theme is being updated in the Artwork Daily PPA and as a standalone package. Downloads are here.

Box theme re-merge fixes

Again, some changes in the GTK libraries made our theme looking wrong. This is a fix applied to GK3 apps with list boxes being greyed out making them totally unreadable (bug #1464349). See the differences before and after:

Also, some fixes in the core Ubuntu theme corrected the titlebar for Unity and the toolbar “continuity effect” in all environments. Before and after:
As always, you can upgrade or get your theme from the Artwork page. If you’re a Wily Werewolf user or you added the PPA to your system, these changes will arrive soon.

Box for Qt

Box’s evolution continues ahead. Due to the Qt development, the main theme for Lubuntu must grow a bit more to cover more apps, devices and, of course, environments. Now it’s Qt, the sub-system for the next Lubuntu desktop, but this will allow its use for KDE5 and Plasma Next. For now it’s just a project, but the Dolphin file manager looks fine!

Note: this is under heavy development, no downloads for now, sorry.

Box support for MATE

The Box theme support continues growing, covering more and more environments. Now we’re celebrating that the MATE desktop environment, a GTK3 fork of the traditional Gnome2, will have its own Ubuntu flavour, named Ubuntu MATE Remix. Once tested, I noticed I missed something familiar, our beloved Lubuntu spirit on it. So here begins the (experimental) theme support. It’ll be available to download soon.

Edit: It’s available now! Get it while it’s hot at Artwork section!

Box theme 0.45

Only two for the forthcoming Trusty Tahr release, and as I promised, I uploaded Box 0.45 with full support for dark panels, including icons for both panels, themes for dark and light panels, and a smaller version of the Openbox theme. Changes in this package:

  • added dark panel gtk theme

  • complete set of stock and gnome icons
  • fixes for gtkheaderbar (client side decorations)
  • full suppot for Unity, XFCE and Gnome
  • added 3rd party applications extra icons

And more to come. Please, feel free to test it on every Linux desktop. Grab both packages at the downloads section, decompress and enjoy!

Box 0.44

We’re very close to the final release of Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. In the meanwhile you can test (or use daily) the new and revamped theme. The controls have been updated to match (a branch merge) the Ubuntu standard themes (as we told here) and lots of icons have been added and fixed. You can get it at our artwork page. Also updated the old theme links, if you want to get early versions.

Box now on XFCE!

I must confess that XFCE is my second favourite environment (you already know what’s the first one), and after giving support for Unity (and some Ubuntu elements) now it’s turn to give it to XFWM, the window manager of XFCE, and Thunar, the file manager, that now looks pretty similar to PCManFM (unified :D).

You can download the Box unified theme at the Artwork section, or use the instructions mentioned on the last post to keep it uptodate (XFWM theme will be available on further system upgrades). Enjoy!

Unified Box theme

Unified means that Box is getting more complete and global. Now we included full support for Unity and Metacity. Now you can use it with Ubuntu and everything will work fine. Look how the Unity controls look on maximixed windows over the panel:

You can download Box icons and Box theme at the Artwork section. The current version is 0.42+bzr384, which means you should our PPA to keep it uptodate, because I’m planning to improve it a lot more.

The only negative part is that Unity-Tweak-tool or Gnome-Tweak-Tool “don’t see” the theme, you need to use Ubuntu-Tweak. Instructions on a terminal for everythng:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:lubuntu-art/daily
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y ubuntu-tweak lubuntu-artwork

And that’s all for this moment. Feedback apreciated.

Restyling Box

Arriving to version 0.43, we found the inspiration (or the need) to revisit the current icon theme. Just a few retouches here and there, a lot of (colour) improvements and (grid) adjustments, returned a refreshed air on all folders and related glyphs, and an overall smoothing look. Now the theme is a bit more sharp than before, and sure more clear for reading in small and big screens. Here’s the sample:

Also, if you use any dock (docky, plank,  or you just use a huge lxPanel) you’ll notice the completed new sizes. If you have installed Lubuntu 13.10 don’t worry, updates will arrive in a few weeks.
