Lubuntu 20.04 LTS Beta Released!

Your Lubuntu team has been hard at work, and has now released the beta version of Lubuntu 20.04 LTS. This will be our 18th release of Lubuntu, our fourth LTS release, but is our first LTS with the new LXQt desktop.

Between April 2nd and April 23rd, all efforts will be focused on testing our product before its final release; finding any missed bugs and getting those squashed. These beta images are not intended to be used on a production system. We strongly encourage anyone willing to test the new images to join our development group, our forum, or the new Ubuntu community group that is coordinating testing for all the flavors on IRC or Telegram. For more information on testing Lubuntu please visit our wiki page. We’ll love all the spare time anyone can provide, to help test our upcoming Lubuntu 20.04 LTS release, and make this the best Lubuntu release ever.

Where can I download it?

You can download the Beta images off of our downloads page.

A note about the Lubuntu Wallpaper Contest

For this release we once again asked the community to get involved in creating the wallpaper for the desktop. The submissions were fantastic and the decision was difficult for the committee to decide. The committee scored the choices and narrowed the selection down. The Lubuntu Members then voted for the winning wallpaper. While the wallpapers didn’t make it into this Beta release, we are packaging them up and you can expect to see them in time for the final release.

Thanks to our Contributors!

This release would not be possible without significant contributions. Thank you for taking the time to develop, support, test and promote Lubuntu. We also want to thank those that choose to donate!

Show Your Artwork

To enter, simply post your image into this thread on our Discourse forum.

We will close this thread on February 25th, 2020 and the judging will begin. No late submissions will be accepted.

The wallpaper selection committee will select the finalists for the Lubuntu Members to vote on.

Rules

There are a few rules though. Please make sure you are happy to submit your work under these rules before you post it. Posting your images here indicates acceptance of the rules.

Ownership

The images you upload must be yours. If you see an image which you know to be misrepresented please flag it and we will take care of it.

Size

Please don’t upload the full-size image to discourse. Large images will slow down this thread so please use smaller images here. In due course, we will contact submitters for access to finalist images, which should be at least 2560×1600.

Quality

As previously mentioned, the final image size should be at least 2560×1600 pixels. Images much smaller than this won’t scale up well. Equally, images with a lot of compression artifacts won’t look good. Your image won’t be accepted if the quality is low.

Watermarking

Personal watermarks should be removed. Acceptable watermarks include the “Lubuntu” name, Lubuntu logo, “Focal Fossa” release name, and “20.04” release version. Any images with other watermarks will not be accepted. Watermarks should be kept small and unobtrusive to the image.

License

Your image(s) must be licensed under the CC BY-SA 4.06 or CC BY 4.03 license. If you do not specify a license in your post then we will assume that you are licensing the image under the CC BY-SA 4.0. By entering the competition you are agreeing to these license terms.

You can share your artistic talent with all the Lubuntu users!

Additional note: If your image is smaller than 2560×1600 and is so great you feel it should be considered, submit it anyway with a note on what resolution can be supplied. We may decide it’s so good we must include it as well.

FileZilla Box theme

Box is the default Lubuntu theme, and it should cover all the system needs (icons, controls, backgrounds…) but some applications don’t follow the XDG specs for their buttons and graphics. FileZilla is a must-have app for most desktops, so here’s a theme for it. To use it go to Artwork, grab it and extract the folder to /usr/share/filezilla/resources/ folder. Then open FileZilla, at the menu Edit / Preferences and look for themes. That’s all!
