FileZilla Box theme

Box is the default Lubuntu theme, and it should cover all the system needs (icons, controls, backgrounds…) but some applications don’t follow the XDG specs for their buttons and graphics. FileZilla is a must-have app for most desktops, so here’s a theme for it. To use it go to Artwork, grab it and extract the folder to /usr/share/filezilla/resources/ folder. Then open FileZilla, at the menu Edit / Preferences and look for themes. That’s all!

Box icons release 0.49

It’s been a while since last post, but no, we’re not dead, just busy preparing everything for 15.04 and it’s new features. Now the icon theme part has been updated since Utopic Unicorn release with a few modifications (see the changelog here) improving integration with LXQt, and we’ll keep working on it.

And remember you can use it with any Linux distro! Download it while it’s hot.

Box 0.44

We’re very close to the final release of Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. In the meanwhile you can test (or use daily) the new and revamped theme. The controls have been updated to match (a branch merge) the Ubuntu standard themes (as we told here) and lots of icons have been added and fixed. You can get it at our artwork page. Also updated the old theme links, if you want to get early versions.

Trusty Tahr artwork last sprint

We’re about to “freeze” the artwork for this upcoming release, the Trusty Tahr. In a few days we’ll present the Community Wallpaper Contest so anybody should upload his own creation.

You can read here all the details of this artwork release. Also, I will upgrade the download links in this blog (sorry, can’t handle everything so fast) so other Linux (not Ubuntu) may use it. More information to come. Stay tuned!

Unified Box theme

Unified means that Box is getting more complete and global. Now we included full support for Unity and Metacity. Now you can use it with Ubuntu and everything will work fine. Look how the Unity controls look on maximixed windows over the panel:

You can download Box icons and Box theme at the Artwork section. The current version is 0.42+bzr384, which means you should our PPA to keep it uptodate, because I’m planning to improve it a lot more.

The only negative part is that Unity-Tweak-tool or Gnome-Tweak-Tool “don’t see” the theme, you need to use Ubuntu-Tweak. Instructions on a terminal for everythng:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:lubuntu-art/daily
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y ubuntu-tweak lubuntu-artwork

And that’s all for this moment. Feedback apreciated.

Restyling Box

Arriving to version 0.43, we found the inspiration (or the need) to revisit the current icon theme. Just a few retouches here and there, a lot of (colour) improvements and (grid) adjustments, returned a refreshed air on all folders and related glyphs, and an overall smoothing look. Now the theme is a bit more sharp than before, and sure more clear for reading in small and big screens. Here’s the sample:

Also, if you use any dock (docky, plank,  or you just use a huge lxPanel) you’ll notice the completed new sizes. If you have installed Lubuntu 13.10 don’t worry, updates will arrive in a few weeks.

Box 0.41 (icon theme)

The default icon theme, Box, has reached another completion hit, version 0.41 is one of the most all-covered and complete icon themes over there. More than 2800 objects (icons and symlinks, apps, devices, filetypes, actions, etc) make this a suitable theme for any Linux based OS.

I’d like to thank Julien Lavergne for collecting every upload we made and creating a handy deb package, and my partner at the Lubuntu Artwork Team, Alexander Andjelkovich, without you this theme wouldn’t exist. If you’re going to download and install Lubuntu 13.10 you’ll have it by default (check release schedule). If not, you can check it out here, and choose your architecture here. Next step? Maybe a full Unity compliant Box theme 😉

Here comes the salamander

The Lubuntu Artwork Team is proud to show you all the new default artwork, including the wallpaper (and a radical scaly deviation for reptiles :D), the improved GTK2/3 themes, a new sexy app button, and the (always) evolving icons. There’s a lot of work during the release cycle, as upgrades that all users will receive. Have a look:

Also, I’d like to thank the 3rd collaborators we had to make this icon theme. It’s lovely how you’re involved in this project that is (I hope) making Lubuntu a bit more famous. And remember, feedback is appreciated!
