Lubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
(Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products,
as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support. And that includes, of course, Lubuntu.

We have expanded our hardware enablement offering since 12.04, and with
14.04.3, this point release contains an updated kernel and X stack for
new installations to support new hardware across all our supported
architectures, not just x86.

As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated
installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to
be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and
corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining
stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Lubuntu 14.04.1 LTS

It’s already available Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, the first update on Trusty Tahr, a recommended by-default setup for all flavours including, of course, Lubuntu. This comes with extended support (until 2019). Various bugs that required updates are rolled into this update:

A bug for btrfs has been found, this is scheduled to be fixed in 14.04.2
A bug affecting Alt-F2 is still present
For PPC the bug affecting the resizing of partitions is still there

Lubuntu 13.10 support ends today

The official support for the Saucy Salamader ends today, 17 July. Canonical recommends upgrade your older Ubuntu versions, and so do we, for the official Lubuntu flavour. Instructions about the upgrade process can be found here. Get yourself into the Trusty wagon and re-start with an improved and more stable environment.

PCManFM 1.2.1

Another update of our file manager PCManFM, tones of bug fixes and new implementations:

fixed dragging and dropping icons behavior
fixed icons positioning
fixed resetting cursor in location bar
corrected folder popup update on loading
reordered ‘View’ menu item
implemented drawing icons of dragged items
etc.

Also a huge update and bug fixing in libfm libraries (1.2.1) too. You can use this updated version in Lubuntu Trusty Tahr. For that you must add the Lubuntu Daily PPA if you hadn’t do it. Just open LXTerminal and type these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pcmanfm

Lubuntu Screencast – Network Manager

Thanks to SilverLion for his work. The easiest way to explain how to fix a bug, for those who didn’t read the Release Notes and want to know what’s happening with thir internet connections. A Screencast is worth a thounsand words!

PPA for LTS packages

As many of you already know, Lubuntu 14.04 is an LTS release. That means we have a lot of time to fix bugs and upload newer packages. Julien Lavergne has recently posted a new PPA for that “maintenance” purpose. If you want to upgrade all your system, including the artwork ;), open a terminal and paste these:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:lubuntu-dev/staging
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

You’ll notice that artwork will change, nm-applet is fixed now (bye to some wi-fi connections problems) and solved the autostart issue. Have fun!

Trusty CD cover

As you may know Canonical has released another wallet for Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, as it is an LTS version it may deserve that. So we have one too. And you all know me, I’m so “Canonicalized” I only publish “official” artwork when Canonical does, but this time for our flavour Lubuntu.

You can download the Lubuntu wallet here. It includes a normal CD / DVD cover, a disc imprint and a Lightscribe version, both with and without hole (thanks for that advice) with, of course, source SVG included. I hope you like it!

Lubuntu 14.04

First of all, my apologies for disappear due to personal reasons (went out for a few days). But it’s here, Lubuntu 14.04 codename Trusty Tahr. The missing links for PowerPC machines have been recovered. Feel free to go to the Downloads section and grab it. If you need more info check the release page.

Box theme 0.45

Only two for the forthcoming Trusty Tahr release, and as I promised, I uploaded Box 0.45 with full support for dark panels, including icons for both panels, themes for dark and light panels, and a smaller version of the Openbox theme. Changes in this package:

added dark panel gtk theme
added matching white panel icons
small and big versions of window controls
complete set of stock and gnome icons
fixes for gtkheaderbar (client side decorations)
full suppot for Unity, XFCE and Gnome
added 3rd party applications extra icons

And more to come. Please, feel free to test it on every Linux desktop. Grab both packages at the downloads section, decompress and enjoy!

Trusty Tahr β2

Almost there! A new beta has been released at the mirrors, Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr beta 2. You already know all the stuff: a few improvements, updated packages, lots of fixes, etc. Look, we were busy:

pcmanfm 1.2.0 (folder settings, dual pane view, menu editing)
artwork (new icons, theme update, more compatibilities)
new interface for lxsession-default-apps
firefox fixings
