Skippy-XD PPA

We have found a new PPA for our beloved Skippy-XD tool. If you don’t remember what it is, just have a look at the article (now updated) on this blog. If you want to install this compilation from GIT (another “latest” apps repository) you can do it the easy way, having no more depending on DEB downloads and ensure updates. Just open LXTerminal and execute these two command lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:landronimirc/skippy-xd-daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skippy-xd

That’s all. Now if you followed the article guide mentioned you should have a cool Exposé-like effect on your desktop.

Lubuntu 13.10 wallpaper contest

Alexander Andjelkovic, from the Lubuntu Artwork Team, is proud to announce the new  wallpaper contest. As 13.10 is getting closer, it’s time to announce the community wallpaper contest for the new Saucy Salamander release. The contest will decide five additional wallpapers that will be included by default with Lubuntu 13.10.

Submissions are done through this Flickr group:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/lubuntu1310contest/

And you’ll find all the necessary information about the contest there as well. Polling will start ASAP after the submission deadline and will be announced to the public.

Spread the word and good luck to all contestants!

Alpha 2

I do not recommend installing any alpha, unless you want to test (and possibly crash) your computer. Some changes you will find on this new release are:

  • Using now Firefox instead of Chromium as default browser
  • XScreensaver has been removed
  • ZRam added, enabling the desktop installer to work on lower RAM machines
  • Updated artwork (icons, new wallpaper, etc)

CD images (yes, it still fits on a CD!) are here.

Here comes the salamander

The Lubuntu Artwork Team is proud to show you all the new default artwork, including the wallpaper (and a radical scaly deviation for reptiles :D), the improved GTK2/3 themes, a new sexy app button, and the (always) evolving icons. There’s a lot of work during the release cycle, as upgrades that all users will receive. Have a look:

Also, I’d like to thank the 3rd collaborators we had to make this icon theme. It’s lovely how you’re involved in this project that is (I hope) making Lubuntu a bit more famous. And remember, feedback is appreciated!

RazorQT theme

Yesterday I read this interesting article on the LXDE blog. For those who don’t know yet, RazorQT and LXDE are joining forces, to make a extremely fast, beautiful and brand new desktop. And here we are, Lubuntu, with a promising RazorQT session available.

Until this arrives (the complete and finished RazorQT environment) you can install it via the official PPA and use this ready-made theme to match your Lubuntu Raring Ringtail desktop. Download it while it’s hot!

Saucy Salamander theme

The whole Ubuntu family is preparing the land for the arrival of Saucy Salamander. Lubuntu too. In a few days we’ll release the GTK2 & GTK3 themes (and maybe something else). Look at the subtile evolution, where you can see the changes that come mostly from Light Themes:

Minor changes go to paddings, and the base color was softened a bit, while keeping the sharpiness. Also, cleaning the dependencies on RC modules and removed many bitmaps, so it will be a lot faster. And remember that you can always keep your Lubuntu artwork using the Daily PPA. You just need to issue these commands on LXTerminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-art/daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
