Trusty Tahr β2

Almost there! A new beta has been released at the mirrors, Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr beta 2. You already know all the stuff: a few improvements, updated packages, lots of fixes, etc. Look, we were busy:

  • pcmanfm 1.2.0 (folder settings, dual pane view, menu editing)
  • artwork (new icons, theme update, more compatibilities)
  • new interface for lxsession-default-apps
  • firefox fixings

But still beta, remember. Don’t use in a productive system. Download ISOs from here. Read the release notes here. The schedule calendar is here.

Trusty Tahr β1

It’s here, the beta 1 for Lubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) for testing, as well as other flavours (Kubuntu, Xubuntu and UbuntuGnome) and I must (as always) remind you this is not suitable for production environment. Some changes you can find in this release are:

  • New pcmanfm (1.2.0 version), with a lot of new features (folder settings, dual pane view, menu editing)
  • New lxsession-default-apps with a new user interface
  • An update of the artwork (new icons, theme update, more compatibilities…)

You may check the full release notes. Or here to see the list of applications included in the distribution. I’d also like to remember that our wallpaper contest is still open in the Flickr pool so you can submit your wallpaper (only a few days left!) and the five selected ones will be included in the final release. Hurry up!

Box now on XFCE!

I must confess that XFCE is my second favourite environment (you already know what’s the first one), and after giving support for Unity (and some Ubuntu elements) now it’s turn to give it to XFWM, the window manager of XFCE, and Thunar, the file manager, that now looks pretty similar to PCManFM (unified :D).

You can download the Box unified theme at the Artwork section, or use the instructions mentioned on the last post to keep it uptodate (XFWM theme will be available on further system upgrades). Enjoy!

  • LightDM using a simple GTK+ greeter
  • Firefox as the new web browser for Lubuntu 13.10
  • new version of PCManFM and libfm including a built-in search utility
  • artwork improvements, new wallpapers, community wallpapers and icons
  • removed Catfish since PCManFM has its own search utility
  • fixed a very old bug causing GNOME MPlayer to crash with some CPUs
  • several fixes for the GPicView image viewer

Go to downloads section and get it for free now!

Box 0.41 (icon theme)

The default icon theme, Box, has reached another completion hit, version 0.41 is one of the most all-covered and complete icon themes over there. More than 2800 objects (icons and symlinks, apps, devices, filetypes, actions, etc) make this a suitable theme for any Linux based OS.

I’d like to thank Julien Lavergne for collecting every upload we made and creating a handy deb package, and my partner at the Lubuntu Artwork Team, Alexander Andjelkovich, without you this theme wouldn’t exist. If you’re going to download and install Lubuntu 13.10 you’ll have it by default (check release schedule). If not, you can check it out here, and choose your architecture here. Next step? Maybe a full Unity compliant Box theme 😉

Lubuntu 13.10 beta 2

Just wanted to inform that the second beta of Lubuntu Saucy Salamander is out (as published at the mailing lists and the Fridge). If you want to test this system feel free to download (PC32, PC64 and Mac). If you prefer to use Torrent files you can get them here.

More changes are included in this “cooked” ISO, like the complete removal of Chromium (getting back Firefox), the zRAM module, updated (and more complete) icon theme, redesigned LightDM theme, etc.

Beta 1 is out

Ubuntu QA finally cooked the first beta of Lubuntu 13.10 a.k.a. Saucy Salamander. You can grab it and install for (I never get tired of saying this) testing purposes only. Goto to Ubuntu QA and choose the flavour you want. Or go to download straight forward for 32bit, 64bit, Mac or PowerPC.

Also, I’d like to remind you that you can comment, criticize or just say whatever you want at the Lubuntu official Facebook page.
