Lubuntu 20.04.4 LTS ha sido lanzado!

Gracias a todos por el arduo trabajo de nuestros colaboradores, nos complace anunciar que se ha lanzado Lubuntu 20.04.4 LTS.

¿Qué es Lubuntu?

Lubuntu es una versión oficial de Ubuntu que utiliza el entorno de escritorio ligero Qt (LXQt). El objetivo del proyecto es proporcionar una distribución de Linux liviana pero funcional basada en una base sólida de Ubuntu. Lubuntu proporciona una interfaz gráfica de usuario simple pero moderna y potente, y viene con una amplia variedad de aplicaciones para que pueda navegar, enviar correos electrónicos, chatear, jugar y ser productivo.

Vida útil del soporte

Lubuntu 20.04 LTS será compatible hasta abril de 2023. Nuestro enfoque principal estará en esta y futuras versiones.

What is Lubuntu?

Lubuntu provides a simple but modern and powerful graphical user interface, and comes with a wide variety of applications so you can browse, email, chat, play, and be productive.

Support lifespan

Lubuntu 20.04 LTS will be supported until April 2023. Our main focus will be on this and future releases.

Lubuntu 21.04 End of Life and Current Support Statuses

Lubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) was released April 22, 2021 and will reach End of Life on Thursday, January 20, 2022. This means that after that date there will be no further security updates or bugfixes released. We highly recommend that you update to 21.10 as soon as possible if you are still running 21.04.

After January 20th, the only supported releases of Lubuntu will be 20.04 and 21.10. All other releases of Lubuntu will be considered unsupported, and will no longer receive any further updates from the Lubuntu team.

Lubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri) Released!

Thanks to all the hard work from our contributors, Lubuntu 21.10 has been released. With the codename Impish Indri, Lubuntu 21.10 is the 21st release of Lubuntu, the seventh release of Lubuntu with LXQt as the default desktop environment.

Support lifespan

Lubuntu 21.10 will be supported for 9 months until July 2022. Our main focus will be on this and future releases.

Lubuntu 20.04 LTS will be supported until April 2023. For 20.04 LTS, we are limiting changes to critical fixes and underlying system changes shipped with all other Ubuntu flavors.

What is Lubuntu?

The project’s goal is to provide a lightweight yet functional Linux distribution based on a rock-solid Ubuntu base. You can find the following major applications and toolkits installed by default in this release:

LXQt 0.17.0 – with many improvements over 0.16, you can go here for more information.
LXQt Archiver 0.4.0 which is based on Engrampa, is now included.
Qt 5.15.2
Mozilla Firefox will be shipped as a Debian package with version 93.0 and will receive updates from the Ubuntu Security Team throughout the support cycle of the release.
The LibreOffice 7.2.1 suite.
VLC 3.0.16, for viewing media and listening to music.
Featherpad 0.17.1, for notes and code editing.
Discover Software Center 5.22.5, for an easy, graphical way to install and update software.

You can find a variety of other applications installed which aim to enhance your experience while staying out of the way of your normal workflow.

Lubuntu 20.10 End of Life and Current Support Statuses

Lubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla) was released October 22, 2020 and will reach End of Life on Thursday, July 22, 2021. This means that after that date there will be no further security updates or bugfixes released. We highly recommend that you update to 21.04 as soon as possible if you are still running 20.10.

After July 22nd, the only supported releases of Lubuntu will be 20.04 (until April 2023) and 21.04 (until January 2022). All other releases of Lubuntu will be considered unsupported, and will no longer receive any further updates from the Lubuntu team.

Lubuntu IRC channels are moving networks!

Following the Ubuntu IRC Council resolution, Lubuntu will be moving all of the Lubuntu IRC channels to LiberaChat as well. Some of the channels have already moved at the time of this announcement and the others will follow shortly. We are also working on updating our links to reflect the change.

Telegram to IRC bridge offline.

As a result of the move our Telegram bridge bot is currently offline. Once things are settled on the new network we will connect the bridge to bring everything back together.

LiberaChat has some guides for using the network and getting your nick registered.

Lubuntu 18.04 LTS End of Life and Current Support Statuses

Lubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) was released April 27, 2018 and will reach End of Life on Friday, April 30, 2021. This means that after that date there will be no further security updates or bugfixes released. We highly recommend that you re-install with 20.04 as soon as possible if you are still running 18.04.

After April 30th, the only supported releases of Lubuntu will be 20.04 (until April 2023), 20.10 (until July 2021), and 21.04 (until January 2022). All other releases of Lubuntu will be considered unsupported, and will no longer receive any further updates (or support) from the Lubuntu team.

You can find instructions on how to install Lubuntu in our manual.

Note, due to the extensive changes required for the shift in desktop environments, the Lubuntu team does not support upgrading from 18.04 or below to any greater release. Doing so will result in a broken system. If you are on 18.04 or below and would like to upgrade, please do a fresh install. The installation image can be obtained from our downloads page.

Our update notifier application received an update. The new update adds the packages and versions to the tree view to see the pending updates better. In addition, Update Notifier now has a separate tree view for security updates. Update Notifier was developed by Lubuntu Member Hans Möller. Update Notifier also lets you update your system from within the application itself.

Lubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) BETA testing

We are pleased to announce that the beta images for Lubuntu 21.04 have been released!While we have reached the bugfix-only stage of our development cycle, these images are not meant to be used in a production system. We highly recommend joining our development group or our forum to let us know about any issues.
Ubuntu Testing WeekUbuntu, and flavors such as Lubuntu, are having a testing session (hashtag #UbuntuTestingWeek, #UTW) during the first week of April, to encourage as many people as possible to help test our new beta, and help make it the best release yet of Lubuntu.
