Alternate install

For those who want to rescue a very old machine maybe Ubiquity installer is too heavy and full featured. So we’re testing a new text based installing system, based on Ubuntu alternate installer (wizard, anyway). If you want to test it download it and burn. But remember, it’s only a test (thanks to Phill Whiteside).

  1. Hello,
    I am interested in iso booting a lubuntu alternate distro using grub2.
    I am able to install ubuntu desktop using the following grub menu entries, which does not apply for lubuntu-alternate

    menuentry 'lubuntu-alternate ' {

    set isofile="/iso/lubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64.iso"
    loopback loop (hd0,5)$isofile
    linux (loop)/install/vmlinuz boot=casper iso-scan/filename=$isofile noprompt noeject
    initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.gz

    Does anyboyd know what should be changed?

  2. It's the same "Alternate Install" common on all *buntus. But, I said "new" because it's been refined and improved. I think the lines oof the article are self explanatory: it's the text installer, the one that doeosn't use the graphical installer.

    I hope it's clear 🙂

  3. I thought I'd try this distro on an old pc. And the links/info around this site are 5 years old.
