Lubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet is here

As expected, the next version of Lubuntu is here. It’s known as a bug release, as we’re preparing the next generation Qt based desktop. Lots of bugs have been fixed, and there’re many improvements. Artwork has been redesigned too, with a smoother and unified overall look and feel.

Remmarkable changes are:

  • General bug fix release as we prepare for LXQt
  • Many LXDE components have been updated with bug fix releases
  • An update of the artwork (more icons, theme update, more compatibilities …)
Check out the full list of included applications. More data at the official website.
You can read the release notes here. Grab it while it’s hot here.

  1. Hello, I'd like to ask why so many fonts were removed in comparison with previous editions of Lubuntu? I was used to changing the default font from Ubuntu (size 11) to Droid Sans or Liberation Sans (size 9, because 11 looks too big) and it's not possible now. Also Firefox looks like it's lacking some fonts. I have only experience with live edition, not edition installed on disk.

  2. Yes, I noticed that too. Maybe it's because of space needs. Packagers decide what fits or not. And "accessory" files, like fonts, emoticons, printer PPDs, etc. are suitable to be removed to make Lubuntu fit in a CD. You can always add them with the Lubuntu Softwre Center. And the package "lubuntu-restricted-extras" brings you the web standard fonts, like the Microsoft ones, for viewing some websites.

  3. i downloaded the latest version of lubuntu, and burned it to cd at 8x. 12x and 16x spin revs with each speed being burned to three differant cds, when i tried those three burns, i either was froze up in the cd boot screen, "where it has white text on a black fdos type screen" OR if it does boot, i get the error code: booting kernal failed: invalid argument. is it an issue with the cd i burned it on, the os i burned to the cd, or is it an issue with the computer hardware i am tryinhg to install it on. i am using an older emachines computer "tower and monitor" that is about seven or eight years old, and when i got it new, it had preloaded on it windows VIST. up until this previous version i havent had any issues with using ubuntu, or it's light sister lubuntu. i tried joini9ng the lubuntu channel on freenode.net, and asked this same question, and i havent gotten any kind of replies on the channel within the last hour i been sitting in that channel. does anyone know about this issue, or not? thanks. sondra

  4. HP LINUX Imaging and Printing System (3.15.2) Self Diagnose Utility … "error: This distro (i.e Ubuntu 15.04) … not jet supported…" Too meny f… distros…

  5. Newer official HPLIP drivers has support for it. Anyway, you can choose prior versions. It worked for me, even using ElementaryOS. And I recommend you to install the hplip-gui package, then configure as usually. My all-in-one HP printer was found via Wi-Fi.

  6. Oops. A clear proof that you didn't read Sondra's post thoroughly, Rafael. She told explicitly that she DID ask on IRC, so it is a little pointless to suggest her the very same.
