  1. Great release. Much better than Oneiric. Thanks so much to the Lubuntu team. 😉 I have Lubuntu on my two computers and works great.

  2. Hello there! I've been using Ubuntu since 5 something and as i watched it got more and more bloated, i started looking for something else. I came across Lubuntu 11.10 and i found it great, but somethings didn't worked right away. I didn't wanted to edit xml files to twinkle it to suit my needs. So i turned up to Xubuntu and used it 'til 12.04 release. I installed Xubuntu 12.04 and it felt bad. Dunno why, just there was something "wrong". Maybe it was bloated, maybe the UI was slower…

So i gave Lubuntu a try (using apt-get install lubuntu-desktop and removing every xubuntu/xfce related package) and got myself an almost-everything-working box! I'm not changing this guy so soon. Keep the great work and the CPU usage low, guys!

I'm myself a Java programmer, but i wanted to join a project and i find myself with more affinity towards LXDE. As soon as i have time i'll start to take a look at LXDE API.

BTW, what makes LXDE faster? Way more C code instead of Mono/Python?

  3. That's the goal. LXDE is hardly coded in C (system and base libraries) but UI elements for tools (lxfind, lxproxy, etc) are coded in Vala. Now somebody's working on a Vala / GTK3 implementation of the file manager itself.

We do not use Mono or 3rd party devs. Also the system core dropped away HAL so the access to system routines are a lot faster.

Our plans is not keeping its actual speed, but improve it even more. I'm glad you like it, so thank you very much, and hope you to be a continued user 🙂

  4. BTW, anonymous, if you're a coder and like to contribute you're always welcomed (for LXDE or Lubuntu projects). Just follow the mailing lists (liks are on the right at this blog).
