Incoming upgrades

OBConf-QT

The QT version of OBConf is ready. PCMan has ported using the QT libraries to match the LXDE-QT or the upcoming Razor-QT desktops. There’re a few things that do not work, such as font settings, dock settings, theme previews, etc. Anyway this app is almost fully functional.

Gnumeric 1.12.6

One of the office components has been updated too. This version improves the support for Open Document formats and Microsoft Excel. Lubuntu includes now 1.12.4 and it’s supposed that this update will be ready in a few days and our systems will be upgraded.

Aerosnap feature

Finally (sorry, ronniew). The window stacking to the edge feature, explained and simplified for Lubuntu prior to 13.04 (where it is, in fact, already implemented).

Not very sofisticated, keyboard driven only. The next version of Openbox will support this drag’n’drop features, so we could enjoy as XFWM or Metacity users do. Available at Tips’n’Tricks section.

Mocking up!

There’s no time for sleeping. Or maybe yes, and dreaming about the perfect interface. So we at Lubuntu Artwork Team are still active, never forget this 🙂 Now thinking about a new icon proposal, a new GTK / Openbox theme and, of course, a new brand official wallpaper for this sweet flavour of Ubuntu. In a few weeks the contest for wallpaper submissions will be open, and we are waiting for your ideas and designs. The Lubuntu Blog will post the Flickr address soon for uploading your creations. The selection will be part of the Lubuntu Community Wallpapers package, and one of them could be yours!

SliTaz 4

The SliTaz team has anounced the fourth version of this tiny Linux. With a new graphical installer this rolling release is a new minimal requierements goal, needing 192 Mb memory and voer 48 mb once installed. It’s projected thinking as a powerful but light server without need of installation. Anyway, it has the kernel 2.6.37 (a bit older, considering Lubuntu and OpenSuSE/LXDE ship with 3.0 ones while being light), Openbox 3.4 (again 0.1 points old fashioned), XOrg 1.9.5 and Alsa 1.0.24 (not PulseAudio).

LxAppearance

It was necessary, unifying visual configuration of the environment in one application. So, here it is. LxAppearance can now change, at once, details such as icons, controls, colours, mouse cursors and window decoration. It only lacks the ability to change the desktop wallpaper. Better for novices and those who don’t like complicated things. It will be available in the repo soon.
